Troika Entertainment, in partnership with Nederlander Worldwide, Richard Frankel Productions and Broadway Asia present 42ND STREET.
In a newly formed alliance these musical theatre pioneers are hitting the road in China with the TONY® award winning musical, 42ND STREET. Opening in September 2007 42ND STREET is scheduled for a multi week run in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Ningbo.
In 2005, China’s Ministry of Culture opened its entertainment industry to foreign investors. Troika’s first venture into the Chinese market last year with The Sound of Music was a huge success. Nicholas Howey, Executive Producer and CEO, of Maryland based Troika Entertainment says “we are very excited to have the opportunity to bring such wonderful and noted productions as The Sound of Music and 42ND STREET to a new and untapped market such as China. Musical theatre truly is an international language.”
42ND STREET first opened on Broadway in 1980 and went on to win the Best Musical TONY® for that Broadway season. Winning two more TONY®’s including Best Musical for the 2001 revival, 42ND STREET embodies the true American Musical. Based on the 1933 Warner Brothers film starring Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers, 42ND STREET offers a nostalgic look at the exciting world of Broadway musicals.
Written by Mark Bramble and Michael Stewart, the first Asian tour boasts Bramble as its director. Nominated in 2001 for the Best Director TONY® for the revival of 42ND STREET, Bramble’s other credits include The Three Musketeers and Barnum for which he was also nominated for a TONY® for Best Book of a Musical.
The tap dancing stars of the early 20th century knew that tap was something special. As tap legend Willie Covan once said “What is it about tap dancin’ that people love so much? It’s beautiful.” 42ND STREET recaptures that beauty and brings it to audiences everywhere.
