Michael Stewart (Co-Author) was born in New York City in 1924 and died in 1987. He graduated from the Yale School of Drama in 1953. His work in musical theatre is a substantial part of the theatre history of his time. He wrote sketches and revues at Green Mansions, a New York summer resort, and for various off-Broadway shows including The Shoestring Revues of 1955 and 1957, The Littlest Revue, and the TV series Caesar’s Hour. His first Broadway book was for Bye, Bye Birdie in 1960, followed by Carnival! (Critics Award for Best Musical), Hello, Dolly! (Critics and Tony Award for Best Musical), Those That Play The Clowns, Mack & Mabel, I Love My Wife (book and lyrics), Barnum (lyrics), Bring Back Birdie, Harrigan And Hart and was co-author of George M! (with John and Fran Pascal), Elizabeth And Essex, The Grand Tour, and Treasure Island (all with Mark Bramble). His novel Belle was published by Macmillan.
